Coyotes left wing Shane Doan got an unexpected result when he
attempted to score against the Washington Capitals on Thursday
night. His shot broke the puck in two pieces when it hit the glass,
something that neither coach Wayne Gretzky nor Doan's teammates
remember ever seeing.
So how did he do it?
He flexed his biceps, then laughed.
The puck broke when it hit the partition in the glass.
And theory the the puck was traveling at 200 mph?
"Oh, it might have been," he joked.
Gretzky asked Coyotes radio analyst Tyson Nash if he'd ever seen
it happen before, and he replied, "Yeah, when I used to
stick-handle."
Last season, players around the league broke sticks constantly,
and Gretzky said the same thing is happening.
"They should go back to wooden sticks," he said. "If it was good
enough for Bobby Orr, it should be good enough for everybody."
