© The Phoenix CoyotesGLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes President and Chief
Operating Officer Douglas Moss announced today that former Coyotes
right wing Tyson Nash has been hired as the team’s new radio color
analyst. Nash will join Bob Heethuis, who enters his fourth season
as the Coyotes’ radio play-by-play announcer, in the broadcast
booth.
“We are thrilled to add Tyson to our radio broadcast team,” said
Moss. “Tyson was a fan favorite during his time as a member of the
Coyotes for his energetic style of play and we are excited to hear
him bring that same passion and enthusiasm to the broadcast booth.
In addition, his wealth of hockey knowledge and experience should
help him provide entertaining insights for listeners throughout the
season.”
The 33-year-old Nash played seven seasons in the NHL with St.
Louis and Phoenix, recording 27-37-64 and 673 penalty minutes (PIM)
in 374 games. He played for the Coyotes during the 2003-04 and
2005-06 seasons and was the recipient of the team’s Man of the Year
Award in 2004 for his involvement in the Phoenix community. Nash, a
native of Edmonton, Alberta, had a standout junior hockey career
with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where
he was a teammate of Coyotes Captain Shane Doan. Nash and Doan
helped lead Kamloops to back-to-back Memorial Cup Championships in
1994 and 1995.
“I am happy to be back with the Coyotes organization,” said Nash.
“I truly enjoyed the time I spent here as a player and am grateful
for this opportunity which will allow me to stay close to the game
of hockey.”
Nash’s first season in the Coyotes radio booth also marks the
first year of the new broadcast partnership between the Coyotes and
XTRA Sports 910. The new “Radio Home of the Coyotes” will cover the
team on 910 AM and on its web site, www.xtra910.com
<http://www.xtra910.com/> . In addition to coverage of Coyotes
games, the station will air pre and post-game Coyotes programming
and a weekly magazine show hosted by XTRA Sports 910’s Luke Lapinski,
who enters his first season as a Coyotes radio host.
“Tyson has been a fan favorite wherever he has skated,” said
Smokey Rivers, Director of Programming and Operations for
ClearChannel/Phoenix. “He is knowledgeable about hockey, likable,
and flamboyant. When Louie DeBrusk’s departure was announced, the
fan blogs lit up with the call to 'Get Tyson Nash on the phone'. He
is an outstanding choice for adding color on radio and the XTRA
Sports 910 team is happy to have him in the Coyotes' family."
The first preseason game scheduled to be broadcast on XTRA Sports
910 is Saturday, Sept. 27 when the Coyotes host the Anaheim Ducks at
7:00 p.m.
